The Wanderer
Audio Guide

In the video work, the artists recreate the positions of fallen Russian soldiers in an idyllic mountain landscape. They refer to the photo series ‘If I Were a German’ (1994) by the Ukrainian "Fast Reaction Group" and the famous romantic painting ‘The Wanderer above the Sea of Fog’ by Caspar David Friedrich. This shows a figure rising above the landscape. With ‘The Wanderer’, the artists refer to the current colonisers of Ukraine and question the Western and German view of the Russian war aggression in Ukraine.
